How do I customize the footer?
The footer appears at the bottom of every email. It is the most complex section in Smart Emails with 9 individually configurable sub-sections. You can enable or disable each one, and they all share the footer background color.
How to open footer settings
There are two ways:
- Click the Footer button in the toolbar — this opens the footer panel directly.
- Click on the footer area in the canvas — if you click on a specific sub-section (like the social icons), that sub-section's settings open directly.
The 9 footer sub-sections
- Logo — Add a footer logo with a custom image URL. You can set the height in pixels and the alignment (left, center, or right). This is separate from the header logo.
- Social Links — Add up to 10 social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat, Threads, and Tumblr. For each platform, enter your profile URL. You also choose an icon style — there are 9 combinations of color (black, gray, white) and shape (circle, square, rounded). Icon size can be small, medium, or large. You can add a heading above the icons, like "Follow us."
- Legal Notice / Imprint — A rich-text block for your legal information. This is where your imprint, company address, or regulatory information goes.
- Free Text — An additional rich-text block for anything you want: a tagline, a seasonal message, a note about your brand.
- Footer Links — Add up to 7 links with a label and a URL each. For example: "Shop," "FAQ," "Contact," "Returns." You can toggle link underlines on or off.
- Copyright — A rich-text field for your copyright notice, like "© 2026 Your Store Name."
- App Download Buttons — If you have a mobile app, add Apple App Store and Google Play Store links. The buttons show standard store badges.
- Unsubscribe — The unsubscribe link text. This uses Shopify's built-in unsubscribe variable, so customers can opt out of marketing emails.
- Font settings — Footer-specific typography (font family and size), separate from the main body text settings.
Navigating footer settings
The footer panel shows all 9 sub-sections as a list. Click on any sub-section to open its settings. Use the back button at the top of the panel to return to the footer overview.
You can also navigate by clicking directly on sub-sections in the canvas preview — clicking on the social icons opens the social links settings, clicking on the copyright text opens the copyright settings, and so on.
